1. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind starting the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization ALWAYS Ready and what motivated you to focus on empowering underserved men?
The birth of ALWAYS Ready was sparked by a desire to tackle the specific challenges faced by men, including veterans, justice-involved individuals, and the homeless in our diverse communities. As a co-founder of this organization, alongside the late Terence L. Lee, our firsthand experiences and observations have revealed the unique struggles that men often encounter but often unsaid, such as limited access to education, job opportunities, and support services.
2. How has the organization impacted the lives of the men it serves and the community as a whole?
Our organization has had a profound impact on the lives of the men we serve as well as the community as a whole. Through our programs and services, we have been able to provide mentorship, support, and resources to help men overcome challenges and reach their full potential. Many of the men who have participated in our programs have experienced positive changes in their lives, including improved self-esteem, better relationships, and increased employability.
3. What are some success stories or memorable moments that have stood out to you during your time leading the organization?
One particularly notable success story involves a Navy veteran who was struggling with methamphetamine addiction, homelessness, unemployment, and domestic violence abuse from his then girlfriend. Through our support services, including referrals to substance abuse treatment, housing assistance, job training, and one-on-one counseling, we were able to help this individual turn his life around.
4. In what ways do you see the organization expanding its reach and impact in the future?
In the future, I envision ALWAYS Ready expanding its reach and impact through a strategic approach that focuses on several key areas. By applying for funding, leveraging advanced marketing strategies, investing in technology and innovation, forming collaborations, and remaining adaptable to stakeholders’ needs, the organization can grow and make a lasting difference in the lives of individuals and communities.
5. How can individuals and organizations support the mission of ALWAYS Ready and contribute to the empowerment of underserved men in our communities?
