NADO REPUBLIC

Este mes, en Paseando en San Diego, tuvimos la oportunidad de visitar NADO REPUBLIC en el área de Coronado. Comida italiana con uno de los mejores chefs recién llegados de Europa y la atención personalizada de todo el staff hace que la visita a este lugar sea simplemente maravillosa.

El lugar es una combinación rústica y romántica, europea con toques modernos. Los techos altos llenos de flores y luces con diseños modernos. Estacionamiento reservado para el lugar y poder disfrutar del clima en el patio (aparte de que por la nueva normalidad del COVID19 es obligatorio que todo el lugar esté al aire libre) hacen que siempre haya espacio para ti. Se recomienda de todos modos hacer una reservación previa, sobre todo en fines de semana cuando el lugar se llena.

Un dato curioso del restaurant es que en lugar de darte un listado de vinos disponibles para esa noche, te invitan a pasar a una mesa en donde puedes ver la botella en persona con sus precios.

Ahora si que como dijo Forrest Gump, ‘como una caja de chocolates’.. nunca sabes que vino habrá en Nado Republic (cambian todos los días de inventario).

Optamos por un chianti recomendado por la mesera y que la verdad se nos hizo perfecto para la cena. El dueño del restaurant salió a saludarnos y nos hizo las recomendaciones y especiales de ese día por parte del chef. Pedimos una ensalada burrata, que consistía aragula, tomates cherry, lechugas y espinacas en una vinagreta suave de limón con especias italianas y encima un queso burrata que es mozarella y crema batida. Nos recomendaron también el calamari frito con salsa marinara como dip y pedimos una pasta familiar que consistía en un fusilli prosciutto, esa pasta en espiral en salsa de tomate con poco picante y jamón serrano en chicharrón.

Para terminar, nos regalaron un tiramisú acompañado de una crema con infusiones de menta, el perfecto final para una velada linda con el equipo de Gente Bonita Magazine. Preguntamos sobre las especiales, los “happy hours” y como podíamos disfrutar del restaurant “como ricos, siendo pobres”. Después de sonreírnos por ese comentario, nos explicaron que las especiales se cambian todos los días pero entre semana los vinos están a precios muy reducidos y si pides tu comida para llevar, automáticamente tienes un 15% de descuento.

No cabe duda que en todos los rincones de San Diego existen sorpresas culinarias. Nado Republic es un lugar que tienes que visitar aquí, ya sea con la familia, una cena romántica ó cualquier celebración en especial.

This month, Exploring in San Diego, we had the opportunity to visit NADO REPUBLIC in the Coronado area. Italian food with one of the best chefs that recently arrived from Europe and the personalized attention of all the staff makes the visit to this place simply wonderful.

The place is a rustic and romantic combination, Old Europe ambience with modern touches. The high ceilings full of flowers and lights with modern designs make it absolutely breathtaking. Having private parking for the place and being able to enjoy the weather in the patio (apart from the fact that due to the new normal of COVID19 it is mandatory that the whole place is outdoors) there is always space for you. It is still recommended to make a reservation in advance, especially on weekends when the place is full.

A curious fact about the restaurant is that instead of giving you a list of wines available for that night, they invite you to a table where you can see the bottle in person with its prices.

Now, as Forrest Gump said, ‘like a box of chocolates’ .. you never know what wine you will get in Nado Republic (inventory changes every day).

We opted for a chianti recommended by the waitress and it was really perfect for dinner. The restaurant owner came out to greet us and made the chef’s recommendations and specials for that day. We ordered a burrata salad, which consisted of arugula, cherry tomatoes, lettuce, and spinach in a mild lemon vinaigrette with Italian spices all topped with a big piece of fresh burrata (fresh milk homemade cheese). They also recommended the fried calamari with marinara sauce as a dip and we ordered a family size pasta that consisted of a fusilli prosciutto, that spiral pasta in tomato sauce with little spice and fried serrano ham (prosciutto).

To finish with a sweet dessert, we tried the tiramisu accompanied by a cream with mint infusions, the perfect ending to a beautiful evening with the Gente Bonita Magazine team. We asked about the specials, the “happy hours” and how we could enjoy the restaurant as “rich people but actually being poor.” After smiling at that comment, they explained to us that the specials are changed every day but during the week the wines are at greatly reduced prices and if you order for take-out, you automatically have a 15% discount.

There is no doubt that in every corner of San Diego there are culinary surprises. Nado Republic is a place that you have to visit. You can go with the family, a romantic dinner or any special celebration.
