The Tijuana Cultural Center

It first opened its doors in October 1982, and it was nick named ¨ la bola¨¨ (the ball) due to the round shape of its Omnimax Theater.

It´s actual name is Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), and it is the most important cultural complex outside of Mexico City.

Dependent of the Mexican Federal Government, it features a performing arts hall with capacity for 995 persons and that has hosted many national and international performances.

Counting the gallery, it has seven exhibit halls for plastic arts. More recently, in 2008 a structure called El Cubo was added, a three story building designed to host world class exhibitions with the adequate lighting conditions, it also houses the Carlos Monsivais Movie Hall.

Currently you can find at El Cubo the exposition Territorios, by acclaimed photographer Santiago Arau with photographs of different regions of Mexico, also the exhibition Iconography of Pain, Mexican Sacred Art. 

The Tijuana Cultural Center also houses an Omnimax  movie projection facility, a botanical garden with regional as well as some flora from the different parts of Mexico as well as replicas of pre Hispanic sculptures.

Worthwhile highlighting is the Museum of the California’s, that tells the story of our region from the cave painting days through more modern times.

The Tijuana Cultural Center is located at Paseo de Los Heroes  in the Zona Río and is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm, admission charge is very accessible, so come discover Tijuana
