What is Project 2VIDA?

Project 2VIDA (SARS-CoV2 Vaccine Intervention Delivery for Adults in Southern California) is a
research project that addresses vaccine hesitancy in South San Diego among Latinx and
African American communities. The pandemic has greatly impacted our communities of color
and it is important to understand the barriers that they face in accessing COVID-19 vaccines as
well as informing them about risks and benefits of the vaccine.
This collaboration between San Ysidro Health and UCSD School of Medicine is funded by the
National Institutes of Health and aims to understand these barriers and how we can help Latinx
and African American communities now and in the future.

What is our impact?

Project 2VIDA has been operating since July 2021, having 88 community events dedicated to
educating and vaccinating the community in partnership with Northgate Gonzalez Market,
Lincoln High School, San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce and many more! We have successfully
administered 1,718 vaccines and provided well over 2,239 PPE kits which include masks, hand
sanitizer, health education and at-home testing kits when available.
Our team works throughout the South San Diego area to provide our health services for free
without appointments as well as linkage to other healthcare services such as provider visits,
blood pressure screenings, HIV/STI testing, mental health referrals, among others. Aside from
providing vaccines, our team empowers individuals with COVID-19 information that is medically
accurate and easy to understand from regulations, new research findings and tips on staying
healthy. This information is provided at our pop-up events and on our social media platforms
with new content weekly.

Where are we now?

We are more focused than ever to get the San Diego community boosted with the new ‘bivalent
booster’ that can be found now at select San Ysidro Health clinics and coming very soon to
Project 2VIDA pop-up events. In order to help inform and vaccinate the community, we have
partnered with Gente Bonita Magazine so they can help us, help the community!

¿Qué es el Proyecto 2VIDA?

Proyecto 2VIDA (SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine Intervention Delivery for Adults in Southern California)
es un proyecto de investigación que combate las dudas sobre las vacunas en el sur de San
Diego entre las comunidades Latinas y Afroamericanas. La pandemia ha tenido un gran
impacto en estas comunidades y es importante entender las barreras que enfrentan para
acceder a las vacunas contra el COVID-19, así como informarles sobre los riesgos y beneficios
de la vacuna.
Esta colaboración entre San Ysidro Health y la Escuela de Medicina de UCSD está financiada
por el Instituto Nacionale de Salud de Estados Unidos. Nuestro objetivo es comprender estas
barreras y cómo podemos ayudar a las comunidades latinas y afroamericanas ahora y en el
futuro.

¿Cuál es nuestro impacto?

Proyecto 2VIDA ha estado operando desde Julio de 2021, con 88 eventos comunitarios
dedicados a educar y vacunar a la comunidad en colaboración con Northgate Gonzalez Market,
Lincoln High School, San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce y muchos más. Hemos administrado
más de 1,718 vacunas y proporcionado más de 2,239 kits de EPP que incluyen cubrebocas,
desinfectante para manos, educación sobre la salud y pruebas rápidas, cuando están
disponibles.
Nuestro equipo trabaja en toda el área del sur de San Diego para administrar los servicios de
salud de forma gratuita y sin citas, además de enlazar a los miembros de la comunidad con
otros servicios de atención médica como: visitas médicas, toma de presión arterial, pruebas de
VIH/ITS, referencias con salud mental, entre otros. Además de administrar vacunas, nuestro
equipo empodera a las personas con información sobre el COVID-19 que es médicamente
precisa y fácil de entender a partir de regulaciones, nuevos hallazgos de investigaciones y
consejos para mantenerse saludable. Esta información se proporciona en nuestros eventos
comunitarios y en nuestras plataformas de redes sociales con contenido nuevo semanalmente.

¿Dónde nos encontramos ahora?

Estamos más enfocados que nunca en decirle a la comunidad de San Diego que reciba el
nuevo “refuerzo bivalente”, que se puede encontrar ahora en clínicas selectas de San Ysidro
Health y que llegará muy pronto a los eventos de Proyecto 2VIDA! Para ayudar a informar y
vacunar a la comunidad, nos hemos asociado con la revista Gente Bonita para que nos
ayuden, ¡ayudan a la comunidad!
